Best Camping Chair in 2022 – Keep Yourself Comfortable While Camping

Although camping is considered “roughing it,” that doesn’t mean that you have to be uncomfortable during your stay in the great outdoors. Bringing the comforts of modern life can be as simple as having a high-quality chair in which to sit by the fire. However, because these chairs have to be portable and lightweight, not all of them offer the same level of reliability.

So, with that in mind, we’re going to take a look at the top camping chairs on the market today. Each one of these is built to provide ample comfort during your next outing, and they are also made to last.

Once you’ve tried camping with one of these chairs, you’ll wonder how you lived without it.

Best Camping Chairs - Reviews

Helinox Chair One Original Lightweight, Compact, Collapsible Camping Chair, Black/Blue

When comparing chairs for camping, you can focus on a few essential qualities. One option is to focus on the amount of comfort and support it provides. Another is to see how well it will hold up in various environments and conditions. In this case, the Chair One by Big Agnes is designed to be one of the most durable and portable options around. Thus, no matter what kind of trip you’re taking, this chair can come along for the ride.

What we like most about this chair is that it’s both lightweight yet extremely durable. The frame is built of high-quality aluminum, which allows it to carry up to 320 pounds. However, the chair itself only weighs two pounds, which means that you can bring it with you almost anywhere.

As such, this model is perfect for all kinds of outdoor excursions. You can bring it with you to the beach, to the mountaintop, or even to the concert. Wherever you need extra seating, you can have it with the Chair One.

The other thing that we like about it is the seat. Although it’s rather simple and doesn’t come with a lot of additional features, it is made of high-performance 600D polyester. This enables the chair to conform to your body shape and size, and it ensures that it won’t get damaged by the weather. Wet, dry, hot or cold conditions won’t faze this chair, which is why it’s so versatile and reliable.

What we liked

  • Durable aluminum construction
  • Weighs just two pounds
  • Folds in seconds
  • Holds up to 320 pounds
  • 600D polyester fabric seat
  • Conforms to your body shape
  • Compact storage for easy transport
  • Multiple colors and styles available
  • Non-slip rubber feet for stability

What we didn't like

  • No pockets or additional features
  • Can be wobbly for some users
ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Chair, Khaki,38 x 20 x 38-Inch

When looking for high-performance camping chairs, you may prefer something a bit more sturdy and reliable. Although aluminum is a strong and capable material for most models, it can sometimes get bent or collapse under too much weight. With the King Kong Chair from ALPS, however, that is not a problem. With a powder-coated steel frame, you can pile in without any trouble. In fact, this unit can support up to 800 pounds, so feel free to sit with a loved one (as long as it’s comfortable to do so).

Although the strength and resilience of this chair are two of its primary selling points, it also offers plenty of amenities as well. First, it comes with a lot of storage. Each armrest has a bag on the side, allowing you to store anything from snacks to books. There are also two cup holders, so beverages are never in short supply. On the back is another mesh storage area, which enables you to maximize this chair’s potential.

As far as comfort is concerned, this model is about average. The 600D polyester seat conforms to your body, but it may be a little rough for some users. The armrests are fully adjustable, allowing you to better customize your level of comfort. The feet are sturdy and rubber soled, meaning that you never have to worry about slipping. Overall, this is a robust camping chair.

What we liked

  • Durable powder-coated steel frame
  • 600D polyester material
  • Fully adjustable armrests with cup holders
  • Side pockets on either side for additional storage
  • Folds compactly in seconds
  • Seat conforms to your body
  • Non-slip rubber feet for stability
  • Holds up to 800 pounds
  • Carrying bag included for easy transport
  • Rear mesh pocket for storage

What we didn't like

  • Heavier than other camping chairs
  • Can be uncomfortable for tall users
  • In rare cases, some of the stitching may come undone
Helinox Chair Zero Ultralight Compact Camping Chair, Black

Next, we have the lighter and more compact version of the same camping chair from above. Chair Zero is one step down from Chair One, which makes it ideal for those who want a smaller, yet equally durable, package. Once again, the primary purpose of this camping chair is convenience and portability, so feel free to bring it with you wherever you go.

Although this chair is not as sturdy as the previous model, it’s still got more than enough durability to last. When comparing the two, there is only a slight variation between them, so you aren’t necessarily sacrificing performance for size. Chair Zero can hold up to 265 pounds, while Chair One can support 320. Also, this unit only weighs one pound, while the previous model weighs two.

As with Chair One, we like the fact that it’s super easy to set up and bring with you. This model is so compact that it shouldn’t take up much more room than a large water bottle, which enables you to keep in on hand for any situation. Bust it out for any outdoor activities, no matter where they are or what kind of weather is in store.

What we liked

  • Durable aluminum construction
  • Lightweight at just one pound
  • Holds up to 265 lbs
  • Folds compactly in seconds
  • Non-slip rubber feet for stability
  • Carrying case included
  • Durable polyester seat
  • Conforms to your body type
  • Air vents in the back for better flow

What we didn't like

  • Not comfortable for larger people
  • In rare cases, the joints may creak or split with heavy weight
Sport-Brella 3-Position Recliner Chair with Removable Umbrella and Footrest, FireBrick Red

As we mentioned above, there are several primary factors to consider when picking out the right camping chair. So far, we’ve seen ones that are built to be tough and reliable, but they lack additional comfort and flair. If you’re looking for a chair that can provide everything you need in one package, then you will love the Sport-Brella Recliner Chair.

There are so many exciting features on this model that it’s hard to know where to begin. The chair itself is made of high-quality steel and polyester, so it’s built to last. That being said, however, there are more mo ving parts on this unit than most other camping chairs, so you can’t be too abusive to it.

One really awesome feature of this chair is the fact that it can hold up to five drinks at a time. There is one cupholder for the beverage you’re drinking right now, and an insulated pocket that can hold four more for later. As such, this is the perfect chair for relaxing, regardless of the occasion.

The other primary function of this chair is the umbrella. It swivels and adjusts, allowing you to block the sun from any angle. Also, it can recline, enabling you to relax even further. Taking naps has never been easier.

One final touch that we thought was really cool was the addition of a bottle opener on the storage pocket. Overall, you shouldn’t have to get up from this chair for anything, except to use the bathroom.

What we liked

  • Durable steel construction
  • Strong polyester material
  • Holds up to 250 pounds
  • Recliner moves in three positions
  • Removable and adjustable footrest
  • Insulated pocket keeps drinks cold
  • Storage compartments with bottle opener attached
  • Holds up to four beverages
  • Adjustable swivel umbrella
  • Two designs available

What we didn't like

  • Some components may bend or break easier than others
  • Footrest can be a bit flimsy
Eureka! Curvy High-Back Chair

One of the most challenging things about finding a camping chair is making sure that it’s comfortable and relaxing enough for long trips. Usually, the stiff polyester material and the sunken seat design mean that you can’t stay in the chair for too long, as it will start to make your body sore. Thankfully, however, the High 45 from Eureka solves all of those problems.

When compared to other models, this one is built much better than the rest. One issue that plagues many camping chairs is that you can’t lean back all of the way (unless it was made to recline). This means that your head and neck don’t get the support they need. With the High 45, however, the back extends much further, enabling you to sit as comfortably as you like. Taking naps is much easier with this unit.

To add further support to your body, this chair also comes with a mesh lumbar pad in the back. It also has foam cushioning in the armrests and the seat so that you don’t have rough polyester digging into your skin.

As far as storage and versatility go, the High 45 comes with a single multi-purpose pocket. It’s large enough for most items, but it also acts as a cupholder, since there aren’t any in the armrests. There’s even a webbed ring on the outside so that you can clip your keys (or anything else you have) for easier access.

Overall, this is the perfect chair for those who value comfort over anything else.

What we liked

  • Durable powder coated steel frame
  • High back design for extra comfort
  • Lumbar and neck support
  • Holds up to 300 pounds
  • Foam padded seat and armrests
  • Side pocket for storage
  • Outside loops for clipping keys
  • Non-slip rubber feet for stability
  • Sling-style seating conforms to your body

What we didn't like

  • Bigger than most other chairs
  • In rare cases, some components may split under pressure
Alite Designs Mantis Chair: Capitola Blue

Next, we have another highly compact and portable camping chair. Like the units from Big Agnes, the Mantis Chair is designed to be carried almost anywhere and deployed in virtually any environment. Whether you need seating for an outdoor concert, or you want somewhere to sit by the fire, this chair is super easy to take with you. At only 1.5 pounds, it’s much more portable than most.

What we like about this chair is the abundance of designs and styles. Unlike most camping chairs, which only come in one or two colors, the Mantis has a wide range of different options. This allows you to pick the best one for your personality, making it both functional and fashionable.

The other thing we appreciate is the ease of use. Flipping it open and folding it closed takes seconds, so you can come and go much more quickly than you could with other chair models. The seat is made of high-quality nylon, and it comes with two breathable air strips so that you never overheat while sitting down. Overall, this chair can hold up to 250 pounds, and it works in almost any weather conditions.

What we liked

  • Durable aluminum frame
  • Compact and lightweight design
  • Folds in seconds
  • Carry it anywhere easily
  • Thick nylon seat for comfort
  • Conforms to your body
  • Breathable air strips for ventilation
  • Non-slip rubber feet for stability
  • Many colors and designs available
  • Comes with carrying bag for convenience
  • Holds up to 250 pounds

What we didn't like

  • In rare cases, the base may bend or break under pressure
  • Not designed for larger users
  • No pockets or add-ons
Therm-a-Rest Treo Chair, Sea Green

So far, we’ve seen a few highly portable chairs that are designed to go with you wherever your next adventure takes you. In this case, however, the Therm-a-Rest Treo is even more compact and convenient for travel. This is because the tripod legs upon which it sits become the carrying case for this chair.

One thing that is kind of a drawback of this model is that you have to assemble it and take it apart. Although the steps required are relatively easy, it’s not as simple as unfolding it and sitting down. Still, it’s compact size and lightweight design mean that it’s much better for some outdoor travel than other, bulkier models.

As far as comfort and performance, this chair comes with a durable aluminum frame and a 3000D polyester seat. Also, it sits higher than most other chairs in its class, which makes it easier to get in and out. The Treo is available in a variety of colors, so you can choose the one that matches your style and personality.

What we liked

  • Ultra-compact design
  • Durable aluminum construction
  • 3000D polyester seat conforms to your body
  • 13-inch seat height allows for easy in and out
  • Packs up quickly
  • Multiple designs and styles available
  • Integrated carry handle for convenience
  • Durable carrying case
  • Weighs just two pounds
  • Holds up to 250 lbs

What we didn't like

  • Assembly required when putting it up
  • In rare cases, the tripod may snap under pressure
Therm-a-Rest Treo Chair, Sea Green

Considering that camping chairs are built to be used outdoors, one issue that plagues many of them is the fact that you are going to be sitting out in direct sunlight. As such, you have to be prepared, which can involve either bringing extra equipment (like a parasol) or adjusting your position to be out of the sun’s rays. Fortunately, this Canopy Chair from Kelsyus provides the protection and comfort you need.

What makes this model unique is the adjustable canopy that sits on top. Although we would prefer if you could customize its position, it’s helpful that you don’t have to keep it deployed all the time (i.e., at night). When you don’t need a canopy, you can fold it behind the chair, so it’s not in the way.

The other interesting thing about the canopy is that it also doubles as a carrying bag for the chair itself. Once you’ve folded the unit, you can tie the material together with the straps and take it with you wherever you go.

As far as additional features go, this unit is kind of light. It just has a single cup holder and no storage, so you won’t get the full-service experience as you could with other models. Nonetheless, it’s still a fantastic buy.

What we liked

  • Durable powder coated steel frame
  • Breathable mesh seat
  • Holds up to 250 pounds
  • Adjustable canopy
  • Movable armrests with cup holder
  • Non-slip rubber feet for stability
  • Multiple designs available
  • Canopy becomes carrying case for convenience

What we didn't like

  • No storage or additional cup holders
  • Canopy is not fully adjustable
Coleman Camp Chair with 4-Can Cooler | Folding Beach Chair with Built In Drinks Cooler | Portable Quad Chair with Armrest Cooler for Tailgating, Camping & Outdoors , Black, Roomy seat: 24"

If you’re looking for a camping chair that provides you with the ultimate comfort and convenience, this model from Coleman comes pretty close. Although it’s not as fully loaded as the unit from Sport-Brella, it has a higher-quality build and will stay in prime condition for years to come. As with all Coleman products, this chair is made for the outdoors.

The primary selling point of this chair is its ability to provide you with ample drinks and storage. Although it only has one cup holder, there is a built-in cooler on the other side that insulates your beverages and keeps them cold. Overall, you can carry up to five drinks at a time, which means that you won’t need to get up for any reason.

The other thing we like about this chair is the padded seat and backrest. Since most camping chairs only use thick nylon or polyester, it’s nice to have something that will cushion your body as you sit. This is another reason why you can relax for much longer than you could with other models. Overall, this chair is perfect for both camping and tailgating.

What we liked

  • Heavy-duty steel frame
  • Durable polyester seat material
  • Built-in cooler holds four drinks
  • Cup holder in armrest
  • Added storage on the sides
  • Foam padded seat and backrest for comfort
  • Adjustable armrests
  • Folds in seconds
  • Non-slip rubber feet for stability
  • Holds up to 300 pounds
  • Multiple colors available
  • Carrying bag provided for convenience
  • Lightweight design is only eight pounds

What we didn't like

  • Some components are not as durable as others
  • No headrest or neck support
Kijaro Dual Lock Portable Camping and Sports Chair, Ionian Turquoise

Our final camping chair model is a bit more unique than the ones we’ve already seen. The Kijaro Dual Lock Chair is so named because you can lock it both the open and closed position. This ensures that the model doesn’t accidentally fold, which can be a helpful feature.

In the open position, locking in place works because it offers a firmer, more supportive seat. Most camping chairs sag, which can make it harder to get out for some people. With this unit, however, it stays level so that you can dismount much faster. Still, even with that kind of rigid support, it’s not uncomfortable.

Locking the Kijaro in the closed position allows you to carry it as is. There is a strap attached to the back, meaning that you can pick up and go at a moment’s notice without having to force the chair into a bag. That being said, the model does have a sack for when you need to keep it in storage.

Another thing we like about this chair is that it comes with two cup holders and pockets for holding your stuff. Although it’s not as fully-loaded as some models, it provides enough versatility and convenience for most people. Overall, this is a fantastic chair for almost all outdoor environments and situations.

What we liked

  • Durable steel frame
  • Ripstop nylon seat
  • Dual-locking mechanism for stability
  • Non-sinking seat is more comfortable
  • Multiple styles and colors available
  • Lightweight design is less than 10 pounds
  • Holds up to 300 lbs
  • Mesh back provides air circulation
  • Carrying strap for easier transport
  • Two cup holders on each armrest
  • Added storage bag for convenience
  • Non-slip rubber feet for stability

What we didn't like

  • Carry bag is kind of flimsy
  • In rare cases, some components may break or split under pressure

Final Verdict

When looking through all of these chairs, it’s difficult to find one that stands out above the rest. For our money, we like the following the best.

Helinox - Chair: if you want convenience and versatility, this is the best option

King Kong: this is a chair that will last for years to come

Sport-Brella: if you want a chair that has everything, choose this model

High 45: those who need extra back and head support must have this chair

Depending on your needs, each of these units is built to satisfy. We appreciate the attention to detail and the high-quality craftsmanship that went into each one.
