Best Fishing Chairs in 2022 – Finding that Perfect Fishing Throne

It is a fact of life—when you start to get uncomfortable, you are soon going to leave, and that is going to cut down on the amount of time you spend fishing. The pain is real, so you should take some steps to make your fishing experience much better by ensuring you have a nice place to sit and relax while you chase after fish all day.

What you need is some options to get you off your feet so you can stay out longer to catch bigger and more fish when everyone else is going home to take anti-inflammatory medication. Getting the best fishing chair is really an important determining factor on how long we are actually going to fish, so make the right choice.

I have been fishing for years and have fished all over the world. I have tried a variety of different chairs and have come up with a list that I think most will enjoy. There should be something for everyone, and every budget. My personal comfort is important to me, and it should be to you as well. After all, this is supposed to be the best part of life—might as well be comfortable.

When you are picking out the perfect fishing throne, there are a few things that you need to consider that may not really stand out as something you’d look for in furniture. This is an outdoor chair that needs to cover a few bases and do more than just support you. It needs to be portable, easy to set up, durable, affordable, and versatile.

This chair also needs to suit your personal needs. If you are just a weekend warrior going out for a Sunday fish on the pond with your kids, you don't need to get the same sort of chair that someone that surf casts all day on the ocean 4 times a week needs.

I am going to try and give you a few options to look at, then you can determine what is best for you and your wants/needs. Let’s see some low-cost options first, and we’ll work our way up to the ultimate fishing throne.

5 Best Fishing Chairs - Reviews

GCI Outdoor Quick-E-Seat Folding Tripod Field Chair with Backrest

This super-lightweight, rugged, and easy-to-carry stool is perfect for those who want something simple to get them up off the ground. This stool is great for back country hikes out to those hard-to-reach creeks and streams to chase after elusive golden trout high in the Alpine of the Rocky Mountains where the ground is, well, rocky, and oftentimes wet and cold.

This stool, however, is not meant for long-term comfort, this just gets you off the ground, but offers no back support. It’s not very tall either, so it’s a lot like crouching, only you do actually get to rest your rear end. This will keep the cheeks dry and you up off the rocks, which is nice, but not everyone is going to enjoy this chair.

On the other hand, its price is also worth noting, so if that’s is a factor you could easily go with this little guy and be fine—you just won’t be as comfortable, unless you are willing to spend a little more.

What we liked

  • Lightweight
  • Made from heavy-duty materials
  • Compact and foldable, so it’s easy to carry
  • Comes with a carry bag

What we didn't like

  • Very low
  • Offers no back support
Ameristep High-Back Blind Chair

This is a literal step up from the camping stool. It’s still lightweight, easy to carry, gets you off the ground, plus it does have the added bonus of having the back support. This is a good chair for a similar application as the previous, making those back country trips a little bit more comfortable.

This chair is also good just to throw into the truck and have around just in case you get some extra time and want to stop by the pond on the way home after a long day at work and have a quick sit down and a cast. While this one does have a high back for support, it is not that much support, and the chair is not very wide, so again, this is not meant for long-term comfort.

What we liked

  • Lightweight and portable
  • Sturdy and durable
  • Offers back support
  • Has a convenient gear pouch under the seat

What we didn't like

  • The fabric tends to squeak as you move around in the chair
  • It’s a little narrow
GCI Outdoor Quik-E-Seat, Black

This is a more durable option than the Ameristep and offers a bit more support for the lower back. This is a great chair and is sort of a go-between for a stool and a chair. This chair is great because it’s small, lightweight, and very portable—this could be another good one for hikes and back country fishing trips, an afternoon on the beach, at the pier, or even on the dock.

This chair is comfortable, but it’s not meant for all-day sitting. It does have the addition of a water bottle holder, which is nice, and I found this chair to overall be a good compromise between comfort and portability.

With chairs, you do have to be willing to give up one for the other, because there is no such thing as an easy-to-carry chair that is lightweight, durable, and feels like a recliner.

What we liked

  • Made from high quality materials
  • Foldable and very portable
  • Good compromise between comfort and portability
  • Comes with a water-bottle holder and carry strap

What we didn't like

  • Not ideal for all-day sitting
Kijaro Dual Lock Portable Camping and Sports Chair, Izamal Yellow

This chair is honestly my go-to chair. It is comfortable, easy to carry, durable, and won't break the bank. Its simple design allows for easy transport and set up, and its construction is sturdy and made in a very comfortable and pleasing-to-the-body way.

I mentioned before having to compromise—this chair would not be suitable for taking out on hikes or in the back country. It is designed with comfort more in mind, so it is heavier and larger than others.

At the same time, it is still lighter than the higher-end models and offers a lot of options in terms of versatility—you can use this chair sitting on the edge of a river fishing for catfish all day, or you could park it on the beach and surf cast the changing tides. Good for the back yard, camping, your hunting cabin, or for fishing by a pond, the Kijaro is a great chair. Of course, over time it’s going to wear out, but it will last you many years with normal use.

What we liked

  • Sturdy and durable
  • Comfortable and offers plenty of back support
  • Dual-lock mechanism to lock the chair into place
  • Great for all-day fishing
  • Comes with 2 cup holders, side pockets , and carrying case

What we didn't like

  • Heavy to carry
  • Not ideal for backcountry use
Earth – New – Ultimate 4-Position Adjustable Outdoor Fishing Chair w/Adjustable Front Legs

And finally, let’s see the high-end option—the Ultimate Outdoor Adjustable Fishing chair by Earth products is, in fact, the ultimate fishing chair. It was designed with the angler in mind, and has some really great features for us. The chair is durable, and made for all-day sitting. The chair is also very comfortable with a cushioned back complete with full back support.

The legs being adjustable means no more sitting at weird angles because the ground below you is uneven—now you can level yourself out and sit comfortably. Having a drink holder is nice, but having a rod holder integrated into the chair? That is from the future!

It really makes life so much easier—I like to sit by the lake and throw out a bobber sometimes, and I don't always have the best way to lean the rod on something if I am fishing with more than one rod, or I am trying to simply relax more. This chair solves that problem, I have a place to hold my drink as well as my fishing rod. Now, of course this chair is not that portable. This doesn’t mean you can fold it and carry it, it is just more awkward and heavier, so you wouldn't want to carry it very far.

What we liked

  • Comfortable, sturdy, and durable
  • Four-position backrest
  • Integrated rod holder
  • The front legs are adjustable
  • Comes with 2 beverage holders and storage pouch

What we didn't like

  • Costly
  • Heavy to carry

Final Verdict

We like to fish for a lot of reasons, and among those reasons are rest and relaxation. You work hard all week, so it’s nice to be able to kick back next to some body of water with a line in, hoping to hook into that fish of a lifetime.

The more time you spend out there, the more at peace and relaxed you will be—and the more opportunities you will have to catch fish. So do yourself a favor and give yourself a tool that will allow you to spend more time out on the water.

It’s time to relax and have a good time, so take load off and take a chair. Good luck out there, and have fun!
